Get Involved
California Monkey Watch has always been powered by people. Whether you live in the foothills or the Bay Area, there is a role for you in bringing California's native primate home.
Become a Volunteer Monitor
Volunteer monitors are the eyes and ears of our program. After a one-day training session, monitors learn to recognize the signs of primate activity, document observations using our field protocol, and assist with camera-trap checks. Trainings are held quarterly at our Auburn field office. No experience is necessary.
Join a Planting Day
Each spring and fall we host oak planting weekends across the foothills. Bring gloves, water and a hat; we provide tools, seedlings and lunch. Families and youth groups are welcome.
Speak Up
Lawmakers listen when constituents speak. When you contact your state representatives, consider these points:
- The California golden monkey is a native species that deserves recognition and a recovery plan.
- Protecting foothill oak woodland benefits wildlife, watersheds and rural communities alike.
- Wildlife corridor planning should account for the needs of tree-dwelling species.
